When it comes to ESOL students withing the age of a kindergartner and a second grader, this point in their life is crucial for learning new languages. Their minds are like sponges and absorb many things. The iTranslate App opens up to a page that is split in half. Each side is dedicated to a language that can be chosen from a drop box. When you tap on the different languages to change them you will see that there are 92 preset languages to choose from. If the language is not there that you are looking for then you can choose the "detect language" tab which then allows you to type in the word and it will do its best to find the correct language/translation. When you type in a word to become translated, the translated words show up on the other side of the page. These words are then able to be tapped to hear the pronunciation or to share your findings.
This app is easy to use for users of all ages and languages. It shows the flags of the different languages, so if a student does not know the way to say the language name or even know what the language name is, they can go off of the flag. This makes it especially easy for ESOL students.
I love learning new languages and cultures which is one reason as to why I want to get my ESOL certification. I want to be able to learn from any students that I may have in my classroom which means to learn the culture and language. I also want to try and adapt different pieces of ever student's culture into the classroom for the year. That not only makes everyone feel comfortable, but it also adapts the students to the appreciation of different cultures, which is becoming a huge thing in the world.
This app could be used to help a teacher communicate with an ESOL student, or for an ESOL student to be able to communicate with the teacher or other classmates. It also can be a fun tool to use if you try to teach/study a new language each month in your classroom just for a fun extra activity. This app is also a fun way to keep students busy if they finish work early, but is also very educational too.
Very nicely done!
