LessonPlans
This case is a bit tricky but I believe that it is a copyright issue because the teacher making these presentations is not seeking permission to use these images and such for these other teachers and presentations. Fair use is only good if the information being used is transformed somehow, but if the teacher just took the information/images and kept them the exact same to teach the same point that the images were intended for then that is breaking the copyright (Hobbs, 9). This means that because she is presenting copyrighted information and images, the teachers who use these presentations are also copyrighting something that they do not have permission to do. Now this could possibly be taken down to an educational use of fair use which means that it is okay, but this would only cover the original teacher who is using the presentations for an educational method. As soon as she started making and sharing because other teachers were lazy and did not want to create them on their own she broke this ability. One thing that Hobbs brings up is the fact that the administrators of schools do not know enough about copyright which in the long run effects the teachers who know nothing about them either and this is how these situations happen (Hobbs, 69). With sharing of documents and such becoming more and more common these issues are apt to happen more (Hobbs, 93).
If we look at the purpose of these presentations, we can see they were for an educational use. These images and information used were found from internet research and were not changed to create a new meaning before using them. Lastly, these presentations were not making income until someone tried to create something to sell using the presentations they were given and this specifically breaks the fair use copyright because it is taking money away from the people who rightfully created the images/information (105).

AlumNet
The school that created their name technically was the first person to use this, and they had proof of it, so the other company does not have the lawsuit case that they believe they do. Thankfully for the other company the school did not have a copyright on that name otherwise their tables would have been turned and the school could have sued them for the copyright name. The warning that was sent to the school should not be worried about.
If we we look at the purpose for the fair use copyright we will see that the school technically was using this name, they created first, for educational purposes of keeping the students in touch with alumni of the school (Hobbs 105). The nature of this name was just a fun name created as a name of a website only to bee seen by school members. The school was not making any money from this name of their website and they used this name. If we look at the other company's use of the name, technically they have not broken any laws either because the name was not copyrighted before they used it even though it was created. They got income on this name because it was a company name and it was most likely not an educational use of the name even though I am not sure from the information that I was given.

Pooh's News
When it comes to this case I personally believe that this is not a form of copyright. This company does not know if this radio station is the actual name of a person or if it is after their character. The school is not showing any images or anything that identifies directly to their book character. This radio is also introducing students to other books to read so it is an educational use. It changes the idea of pooh and makes it their own thing which does not fall under copyright for educators.
The four factors of fair use the purpose of the use, the nature of the copyrighted work, the amount used, and the market impact (Hobbs, 19). When it comes to the purpose of this name use, it is for an educational school radio to help introduce children to new books to read. The nature of the material is a children's book and the books that are being read are bought (probably) either by a teacher or the school so those are allowed to be shared in the school. The amount of this book used is just the character's name. It does not even include any other characters or details from the Winnie the Pooh books or show. The school is not gaining any money from this radio, if anything they are losing it by paying for all of the technologies needed for the radio.

Controversial Billboard
When it comes to this case I believe that the mother has no grounds to call a copyright issue with her daughter's picture to be used because she signed a release form for the photo. This release form was allowing the photo to be placed as a stock image online, which means it is free game to anyone on the internet. I can see how she would be upset that this specific company used it but once it was placed online she does not have much control over the photo's location. All she can do is ask the company to remover her daughters picture from it but that is it.
If this picture/ad was used in schools to help teach a part of black history month and what is causing the lower population numbers in certain areas then they would have access to do because it was just used for educational purposes and was not made into a big public announcement. The only way the mother would know about this then would be if it was shown in this student's class. The mother's only case would be if the photo had some sort of time limit on the copyright/release form she used (Hobbs, 67).

Movies All Day
This study is interesting because during my senior year at Johnson University Florida I was planning a movie night for my residents and at first I placed the movie name on the front of the flyer that would be distributed and I was told that I could not put the actual movie title, but I could say a movie because it would be violating the movie's copyright law. When reading this case I noticed that never did the school say that these movies were for any educational purpose, instead it is just something to entertain the people attending their festival.
When it comes to the factors of fair use they are taking into account the purpose of the use, the nature of the copyrighted work, the amount used, and the market impact (Hobbs, 19). Now looking at these different factors in this situation with a school, the purpose of the movies was not to teach a lesson to the students, it was to entertain the public at their event, so this does not fall under the educational fair use. The nature of the work was that they were DVDs and even if the educators owned a personal copy of the movie they were sharing with the public and not just their classrooms. The amount of the movies being used was 100%, they were not just using a small amount of the movie to show. When it comes to the market impact, the school was not charging for viewing the movies which is good because that would definitely break the copyright law because the owners would then be missing out on the funds meant to be given to them for the movie creation. If the school was using these movie for an different, educational purpose and did not state the movie's name publicly then they probably would not have been given this letter.

Gap Steal
This article is interesting because it makes me wonder as to how many companies do this with their t shirt deigns and such. In my opinion Gap owes this man money for taking his photo and using it for a profit. They changed the color but they did not take the most identifying feature out of the picture, nor did they look to see if the photo was copyrighted. I believe that this man who took the picture has a valid copyright lawsuit on his hands and Gap is in trouble.
According to the book by Hobbs, the term that fits Gap's best interests would be the use of Transformativeness. This term means to re-purpose a copyrighted material as part of the creative process (Hobbs, 8). One thing about this term though is that, according to Hobbs, the use of this copyrighted material for the same use as what the owner did is a form on copyright if there is not permission given ( Hobbs, 86). If one uses such material then they need to change a big majority of it to make it their own creation.

A Family Christmas Card
This is a very interesting case because there were faults on both sides in my opinion. The store owner should have taken the photos' original posting into account or at least double checked before just taking it for his own use. The family should know that if their blog is public, this means that anyone and everyone can take the information and images posted on there and do what they like with it. Yes, the people using it should at least ask but if they find the picture on google and not on the original blog post then how would they know?
If this photo was used in a educational sense it would be harder for the family to have a case against the copyright violation if the picture was being used for educational purposes inside of a classroom. If the educator was distributing this picture in a mass quantity then that would be a whole other copyright issue. I can see the family still being upset that it is being used but that does not necessarily mean that they would win this copyright battle. If a student used this photo in a project and even cited where they got the picture from that does not mean it still does not legally break the copyright law (Hobbs, 76).

Yogile vs. YouTube Editor and Screenr
I chose to explore Yogile. I have never heard of it and thought it had a fun name so why not check it out! I am not familiar with YouTube Editor or Screenr either so this is a choice made off of the fun name. After typing in Yogile.com It takes you to a page where you can sign up for free. Once you have created an account you are free to upload pictures by either clicking the "upload" button, dragging the photos onto the page, or emailing them to an email address. These photos can be placed in different albums created and them they can be chosen to be shared with the public, only those who receive the link to the album, or to no one but yourself.
This app seems like it is user friendly but may not be the best for the younger aged students to use. It is password protected so it keeps anything shared on there safe from hackers and such which is important if it is something like sharing pictures of the class during fun events to parents. Another cool aspect is that it deletes the pictures posted 14 days later which can help keep things secure and safe for all who use it.
I think this is a really neat idea because when the class, teachers, or parents take pictures that they want to share with everyone email is not something that is able to send multiple images due to their size. I can even use this with my family and friends! Only thing is that this seems kind of like a place where people could post pictures of others (bullying) and then after those 14 days they can go away. As an adult sing this site with students, I would want to make sure and daily monitor the pictures posted.
This app could be used for parents, students, or teachers to use in order to post pictures of the classes during a fun event or for the student of the week, etc. It is an easy way to especially share these with the parents because you would just email them a link that went to those photos and told them they would be taken off what ever the day 14 days later would be. This concept will put the parents at ease knowing that their child's picture will not be on this website forever.

Kids Can Match - Animals
Younger grades are learning about animals, how they look and how to pronounce their names so an app like Kids Can Match-Animals (Match Animals) they can not only learn the look, but also the name of animals and their sounds. When you open the app you can start a matching game right away. If you got o settings you can change the size of the matching card grid as well as the sounds and grid style. When you start finding matches you can click on a card and the animal on the other side will make a noise. This happens with each card. You can also see the name of the animal displayed at the bottom of the page and if you tap on the name is pronounces it through the speaker. There is a timer running to see how fast it takes to complete a grid.
This app would be fun for a younger student to use because it is a game! With most matching games you play with multiple people, but with this app the student plays on their own which can be beneficial to their own learning. It shows vibrant, colorful pictures which can attract the students to the game as well.
I loved playing matching games when I was a child and I will never forget this one game that I absolutely loved. It had to do with child safety so It showed different signs like stop signs, poison signs, chemical signs, and danger signs. Not only did I learn what these safety tips were, I also had fun playing it. Matching is such a good way to subconsciously help students learn new information.
This app could be useful in a classroom to play as an extra time activity, a fun hook for a lesson on animals, or could even be used as a formative assessment. The way it could be used as an assessment could be by having a student play one of the games in front of you and turning the sound off so they have to pronounce the name of the animals by just seeing the pictures. You could also play this on the board and have students guess what animal is being shown by their noises too.

Read Me Stories
In the younger grades from kindergarten to second grade reading is a big part of being able to advance onto the next grade. Vocabulary words, letter and sound recognition, and being able to read fluently are major aspects that pertain to a student's ability to read. The Read Me Stories app is extremely child friendly. When you open the app you can either choose to be a new user and load a new library or continue with a library you build as a returning user. If you choose to be a new user you then go to a screen that lets you choose a series of 5 books that will start you off. Once you choose a series you can start reading the book. This app does give you the option of having the book read to you or for you to read the book on your own. The books are simple one to two sentences per page that are easy for learning readers. If the books reads to you, the students can follow along with their finger to sound out words with the voice. It also has interactive buttons that keep student's engaged along with understanding the text.
This app is extremely user friendly and can be used for a variety of things. Student's can choose their own books to read due tot heir interests. This can also be used with an adult/teacher or just by students along.
Not only does this concept fascinate me, I know that it will one day replace all of the old tape recordings of books being read because it is faster, smaller, and more available. It can be played out loud or used with headphones and that is a concept that is more 21st century focused. I wish this was around when I was learning to read because apparently I would always walk around and tell people to read to me, but with an app like this I could have always read/have stories read to me without bugging the adults. I am sure my parents would have enjoyed this too.
This app could be used for a learning center, extra time activity, reading groups, and even be useful with a one-on-one student conference. It not only helps students be able to learn sounds and letters, but it also helps them with reading comprehension and reading fluency/speed. It would be a great addition to any classroom as a reading aid.

MathBoard
Addition is a huge part of the mathematical curriculum in the grades of kindergarten to second grade. The students start off learning their numbers, then how to add numbers within ten, then fifty, and so on as they advance in their grade levels. The MathBoard App is geared specifically towards addition. When you open this app it gives you six different options to choose from. There is an activity tab that gives a student four different math activities to play. There is a learn tab that teaches addition tables. There is also a speech tab that lets you choose the language being used and also pronounces the vocabulary that will be used in the app. One of the coolest things is that you can create different accounts for each student and by doing this you can watch their progress and see how they are doing in different addition aspects.
This app is easy to use and could be easily navigated (with a short tutorial from the teacher) by a younger student. It could be a bit advanced for kindergarten use but it would not be a bad learning center/extra time activity to help challenge the student. The lessons it teaches can also help the student understand how to do something without needing a teachers assistance.
I played around on this app yesterday because it looked fun and tested my math skills. I hate to admit that the quick math that is required by a timer took me longer than I thought it would so if it can challenge me I know it would be able to challenge my students. This app was fun and time consuming and did not really feel as if I was learning anything, but just playing a game that raced against a timer.
MathBoard could be used in a classroom to help introduce new math problems, be used as a learning center or extra time activity, a way of testing number recognition, and speed math. Since the language can be changed it can also be helpful for an ESOL student. The different activities change so even if a student does this activity a bunch of times, it is still challenging them by giving them new problems and sequence orders of the problems.

iTranslate
When it comes to ESOL students withing the age of a kindergartner and a second grader, this point in their life is crucial for learning new languages. Their minds are like sponges and absorb many things. The iTranslate App opens up to a page that is split in half. Each side is dedicated to a language that can be chosen from a drop box. When you tap on the different languages to change them you will see that there are 92 preset languages to choose from. If the language is not there that you are looking for then you can choose the "detect language" tab which then allows you to type in the word and it will do its best to find the correct language/translation. When you type in a word to become translated, the translated words show up on the other side of the page. These words are then able to be tapped to hear the pronunciation or to share your findings.
This app is easy to use for users of all ages and languages. It shows the flags of the different languages, so if a student does not know the way to say the language name or even know what the language name is, they can go off of the flag. This makes it especially easy for ESOL students.
I love learning new languages and cultures which is one reason as to why I want to get my ESOL certification. I want to be able to learn from any students that I may have in my classroom which means to learn the culture and language. I also want to try and adapt different pieces of ever student's culture into the classroom for the year. That not only makes everyone feel comfortable, but it also adapts the students to the appreciation of different cultures, which is becoming a huge thing in the world.
This app could be used to help a teacher communicate with an ESOL student, or for an ESOL student to be able to communicate with the teacher or other classmates. It also can be a fun tool to use if you try to teach/study a new language each month in your classroom just for a fun extra activity. This app is also a fun way to keep students busy if they finish work early, but is also very educational too.

Epic Citadel
I plan on teaching somewhere between the kindergarten to second grade range. I chose to look at the Epic Citadel App for the iPad because creative writing is something that is a major piece of these younger grades writing. While opening the app I was wondering what exactly it was going to do. When I started playing the game I realized that it does not have many instructions and all you do is walk around in your virtual person through a medieval city. You just tap on the screen where you want your person to move and swipe your finger to the side to look/turn around. It is a simple game that has great graphics.
This game would be easy for younger children to use and does not seem to contain any "older" content that would scare or scar a young child's mind. It moves fast and smoothly so there is no extra time wasted that would give children a chance to goof off. The exploring is a neat concept and is guaranteed to keep their attention.
I love playing video games so this would be a cool thing to have in a classroom. I wish we played more games in my classrooms because I believe the best way for students to learn and retain information is by doing something that is sure to be fun and memorable.
This would be a great app to use when learning directions, Medieval history, and creative writing. For learning directions you could have students start out in one area and explain how to get to another part of the map by using appropriate vocabulary. For Medieval history this app shows what a city would have looked like back then. For creative writing it could be a good way to inspire students who are having a hard time coming up with things to write about. Just walking through this city could spark a new story. It would be a benefit to have in your classroom.

Edmodo
I chose to explore Edmodo because I have never heard of it before and thought it had a cool name. To start out I went to Edmodo.com and signed up as a teacher which connected to my google account. You then choose what subject you teach and what grade(s) you teach. You can also upload a profile picture. The look of the main page is much like a Facebook profile. At this homepage you can set up different groups and post conversations and such for everyone who is in that group to see.
This app is easy to use and very "child" friendly. It not only gives the students a way to learn about cyber etiquette, but it also gives them a fun, safe social media to be a part of. Parents im sure will be a fan of the safety and privacy given in the account.
I think this would have been a great way for myself to become introduced to the social media world when I was younger. I joined the Facebook crew at an older age than many, but it still was a bit too "adult" for me. I wish there had been something like this around that was used in my school to teach the safe ways of using social media and such,
This could be a great way to keep parents and students informed of updated class schedules, newsletters, or any other news. Depending on the age of the students you could have a student's page and a parent's page and have information that is more focused to them. You can upload information in different folders for the different groups to see and you can also award student's comments and posts with stickers. There are also things like a planner and a snapshot tool you can use. This would be a great way to stay connected to the students and parents but you could also use it as a way to post forums or have class discussions, votes, or fun conversations. It is safe and can be monitored by the teacher and all involved so that makes student-to-student cyber bullying better to monitor. I wish this was a thing when I was in middle and high school.
Remind vs. Google Hangouts
I chose to explore Remind instead of Google Hangouts because I personally am more familiar with it. I have not heard of Remind before so I thought I would learn something new about it. After logging on to Remind.com I proceeded to login using my google account. I then chose that I am a teacher and set my name as Miss A. Sallee. The website then had me write the class name and then gave me a message for my students to send @missasal to 81010. This will set up the people who are included in the texting reminders. I can also enter email addresses and phone numbers for those in the class. I can also share the link or print off a paper form of the information. Once in the main profile page you can see if you have any new messages as well as set up what information is seen by the students.
It seems to be extremely easy to upload and set up which is always a good thing. You can also have more than one class under this account which is nice if you have multiple classes with different students. This app can help keep you, as well as your parents and students organized.
I personally could have used this app in high school with all of the different organizations I was in and such. It would have helped me stayed more aware of different activities. I want to use this in my future classroom and or other organizations. It would have been a great thing to know about when I was a high school softball coach because it would have been an easy way to send out information without giving out all my personal contact information.
This seems to be a great resource for teachers to use to keep students and parents involved and aware of all the requirements, events, and news that are included in the classroom. You could have (if your students are older) a class for parents and a class for students that have the information the is needed from both sides. If you are teaching a younger class then it can be a great way to upload the weekly newsletters that are sent home in paper copy, in case it becomes lost, for the parents to see. I will use this in my future classroom for sure!

Dropbox vs. Evernote
When given the choice to explore either Dropbox or Evernote and I decided to go with Dropbox. I do not have much experience with either but I have heard of Dropbox more often than Evernote. To start out I went to dropbox.com and logged in with my Gmail mail account. From there I proceeded to look through each of the tabs on the left side of the page, seeing what each one contained and was for. After looking through all of the different tabs I specifically noted the photos and sharing tabs.
I know my family and I have always sent all kinds of photos/videos/etc. back and forth and this seems like it would be a great way to do this. My brother and I have always used email or USB devices to share music, pictures, and documents but by using Dropbox we can skip the need of a USB device. It can also make backing up my files easier too.
I can also use this in my future classroom because I can use this to backup some of my files as well as share them with my students and their parents. I can specifically set up a "team" for sharing and this could be different student's, parent's, or even coworker's teams. After these teams are created I can then upload the files that pertain to them so that they can have all of the information that they need.
I like how it connects to my google account because that way the people that I am already friends with in there are easy to contact and share files with. I also like that there is about 2.5 GB of space open to store and share things. Everything that is placed in Dropbox is secured and protected against hackers and this means that any material could be placed here and would not necessarily violate any privacy laws. It will be useful in my future classroom and work space.

My Spelling Test
When it comes to giving spelling tests the new app, My Spelling Test, is useful. This app allows you to record and spell the words you are wanting your students to spell. When the students receive their iPad they can then open this app and start their test. During the test the word and sentence your previously recorded will play, then the student will have to type in the correct spelling of the word. This app takes little time to set up for each test and is an easy way for students to be in control of their test taking. It also allows students to take tests while the teacher in doing something else, it is more time efficient.
When students are needing to look up words in a dictionary students can use The Dictionary app on their iPad. This app allows students to type in the word they are searching at the top of the page. Once they have typed in a word and hit enter the word's definition, the different forms (verb, noun, etc), the origin and history of the word, and can even pronounce the word aloud (which can be extra helpful if you have a student who is just learning English and how to pronounce certain words and sounds).
If students are in charge of creating a drawing they can use The Drawing app on their iPad. This app is easy to use by having a blank page to draw, paint, color, stamp, and decorate. Each of these different forms of creating are displayed at the bottom on the page with a picture of each utensil. This display is not only child friendly, but it also can help with any ELL student because even though the word marker is different in their language, it looks pretty much the same. The students can then, once they have finished their creations, save and share it with others whether it be by email, printing it, posting it, etc. It is a great way for students of all ages, cultures, and disabilities to use.
If students are to create their own movie or comic strip they can use the Strip Designer app on thei iPad. This app allows students to create a design template, with many options to choose from, that they can either upload pictures or their drawings into the places provided. This allows them to tell their stories. They can also add stickers, text boxes, and text balloons. This gives the students a sense of creativity when coming up with their own stories. Once it is complete students can share this finished project with others by clicking on the "share" button at the top right of the page. This app gives students choice on their assignments while also restricting what can be made for the project.
Safari and Rover
After looking through the apps Safari and Rover, I have found that each app is useful in their own way. Safari can be helpful if you are looking for a simple way to research different topics and information. It is fast (depending on your internet speed) and easily responds to the touch directions. It can allow you to open multiple tabs as well as move them around. You can also share your findings with others easily. One of the downsides to using safari is that it does not play any games/videos/images that are downloaded with Flash.
Rover can be a useful tool if you are wanting to play games that are downloaded by flash because it is actually a video of the webpage, not the actual webpage. It does have its own multi-touch gestures that you will have to learn in order to use the app. The downside to this app is that it is often slow and laggy which can create user frustration. It also cannot play anything that uses shock wave or unity player.
I personally would use safari over rover mainly because of the speed factor. If I am wanting my students to complete something in a timely manner, giving them a device/app that takes longer can open up the possibilities of misbehaving and frustration of a student waiting on a page to load. Safari also takes less bandwidth, which is an important factor if it is being used at school. The more bandwidth means the more data being used and the slower it will make all internet activities.

iThought
When I first opened iThought I was not exactly sure what to do but after clicking around on some of the different icons, I realized that you could add new bubbles, bullet (pearl) points, and category lines. It was easy enough to understand exactly what this app was for. This could be used for all different aged students.
After looking around and investigating iThought, I found it to be a very useful tool when teaching students to create a story map. The students can us this to outline a story or paper that they may be writing. The students can place their topic in the middle and expand the web into different areas such as main idea, theme, plot, etc. Once students finish their story mapping they can email it to their teacher, parent, or themselves for further editing. If they send it to the teacher, they can then open it and leave the student comments on their work and given them things to be able to fix/change which is a form of feedback that can be useful in your teaching career as well as your student's education.
Box App
When exploring through the Box app I first went to box.net to set up my free account. Then I continued to upload a document that I created in Pages into my new folder labeled Holistic Education. This was a tricky step because none of the symbols are labeled at the top of the apps screen but after some clicking around I figured out how to upload a document.
A couple ways you could use this in a classroom could be to help teachers to be able to create documents and upload them in a system that they could then retrieve their information from anywhere. The teacher could also use this as a way to back up all of their information. For the students, this can be a way of transferring documents from school to home. It can also help as a way to submit assignments to their teacher. Parents can also use this app in order to communicate or turn in different forms that have been sent home or emailed home to the teacher.

Pages App
While completing the tablet assignment number one I looked at the Pages tutorial located on YouTube and played around on the actual app. This app is extremely similar to Microsoft Word by providing different template forms to choose from, also including a blank template that you can type and create what you need. It also includes the ability to insert a picture directly from your camera roll/saved pictures. Charts or graphs can be placed and created in the document also. The top of the screen in this app has the margin ruler and allows you to change the font, color, and size of the text as well as bold, italics, and underline different text. One thing that is not the same is that this app does not require you to save every two minutes, it automatically saves the document for you. Another thing that is handy is that this app auto corrects any words typed which can help increase your typing speed and spelling accuracy. The iPad can help insert images, charts, and graphs, quicker and easier due to the better accessibility of the correct buttons. All documents saved on the iPad automatically get uploaded to the cloud for a safe backup system which means it can be pulled off of the cloud on any device. A negative about the app is that is it is a smaller screen and the keyboard takes up half of the page which can make writing larger papers on it more difficult.
